The Ultima GTR is one seriously rare piece of hardware to find in North America, and for good reason. Unlike European customers, folks on our shores can only acquire Ultimas as a kit car. Now don't let terminology fool you, just because the word "kit" is there doesn't mean that this isn't one serious supercar.
Through independent testing, the latest model of the factory-built GTR with a 720 bhp American Speed built engine shattered a number of production supercar records including the Ferrari FXX's Top Gear test track lap time, as well at clocking an astounding 2.6 second 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) time AND pulling 1.176g lateral grip in a 60m circle.
The GTR up for offer in Vancouver comes to us from the folks at Miles End Motors. The car was originally built in Ontario by the Guild of Automotive Restorers, and only had 2000km on the odometer when Miles End scooped it up in the spring of 2012. The car has since seen an extensive refresh, including reworking the suspension, corner balancing the car, Kevlar wrapping of the exhaust, adding an air conditioning system, as well as some general maintenance and a fresh set of Hoosier slicks.
This particular GTR is packing a fuel-injected LS1 that has been dyno'd at 390 horsepower at the rear wheels. Given its ultra-low 952 kilogram (2,100 pound) weight, that's still plenty of power to make it near-untouchable at your local track day. Miles End Motors has it listed for a healthy $89,900 which doesn't seem half bad when you consider the cost of just about any other mid-engined supercar.
