The Ever Evolving Art of Advertising

I am one that is fascinated by advertising.  And the brainpower and creativity that goes into it.  And the Heineken largest indoor refrigerator was very cool indeed.  I had not heard of the idea with the large empty boxes discarded in the garbage.  And now it would seem the Mini has followed suit with the same idea.  I expet there will be those that scoff at the "waste" this represents.  I suppose an interesting comparison could be made of the environmental footprint of the different approaches to advertising.  Nonetheless, this effort by Mini has obviously already given them the "print-time" they were seeking.

Heineken ran commercials that showed a guy's ultimate closet as a walk-in refrigerator filled with the Dutch beer. To support the ads they put huge cardboard boxes around Amsterdam on garbage day with "Walk-In Fridge" written on them, as if someone had actually gotten one as a gift. Well, it looks like Mini did the same thing after Christmas, casting giant, empty boxes with shreds of gift wrapping around Amsterdam. Predictably for a Mini campaign, it got people's attention. Check it out after the jump.
