Say it aint so!

The longtime favorite taxi, Checker Motors has filed for bankruptcy protection last Friday January 16. Although the company ceased manufacturing these iconic cabs in 1982, it remained a supplier of parts to the Big 3 in Detroit. Autoblog.com reports that declining sales and increased costs in raw materials are held as the culprit. However, it also seems that labor costs were a contributing facotr. Seems that union negotiations lasting more than a year were unable to come to an agreement.
Its probably a little known fact but rock and rollers might remember that George Thorogood and The Destroyers did a 1981concert tour travelling the 48 continental states in a Checker car!
