Production Rally Fighter set to debut at SEMA [video]

Local Motors has announced plans to introduce the production Rally Fighter at SEMA.
Developed as an open source project, the Rally Fighter was created by a community of enthusiasts who effectively designed the vehicle from the ground up. More importantly, the open source nature of the car means that "chassis and body data is available free for download so modding is easy."
In final production trim, the Rally Fighter boasts a powered-coated tubular steel space frame chassis, an off-road suspension (with a detachable front stabilizer bar and up to 20 inches of travel), and a high performance braking system.
To reduce weight, key components (nose, rear, underbelly and floor pans) are made from carbon fiber. Furthermore, the Rally Fighter has a vinyl-wrapped exterior which is 12 lbs (5 kg) lighter than a painted one. All told, the car is to tip the scales at approximately 3,200 lbs (1,451 kg).
Under the hood, power is provided by a 6.2-liter V8 engine with 430 hp (321 kW / 436 PS) and 424 lb-ft (574 Nm) of torque. It is connected to an automatic transmission which sends power to the rear wheels.
Pricing information hasn't been finalized (beyond a $50,000 estimate), but customers can reserve a Rally Fighter for a $99 deposit.
