CSX4204 is fitted with a fresh dyno-tested aluminum big-block engine taken out to 482 C.I.D. and dyno tested at 511.7 hp at 6,000 rpm. Needless to say, performance is simply staggering. Additionally, CSX4204 comes with a spare fresh period-correct 427 C.I.D. big-block side oiler engine. CSX4204 has a near flawless black on black finish and has only 246 one-owner miles since new--literally a new car.
Only 31 original Cobra 427 S/Cs were produced--not nearly enough to quell the demand for this rocket-sled that took the racing world by storm. In the late 1980s, Shelby American, Inc. decided to build their own continuation vehicle of the mighty Cobra 427 S/C. The Shelby Cobra CSX4000 component vehicle is a faithful continuation of the character of the original S/C Cobra, but utilizes the improved materials of today, to make the CSX4000 an authentic Cobra 427 S/C. With improved cooling, a stronger chassis, better heat-shielding and better steels and alloys, it is a safer and more satisfying drive without losing any of the original's skateboard-on-steroids sensation.
Shelby Cobra CSX4000s were all produced as "Rolling Chassis" and delivered to Authorized Dealers for engine/transmission selection and final fitment. Most of the rolling chassis were ordered with the fiberglass bodywork, with only a few ordered with the much more expensive hand-formed aluminum bodywork. Carbon fiber bodywork was also an option. In 2009, CSX4999 was produced, concluding the CSX4000 series, and production has continued with the CSX6000 series, with coil-over suspension. Each CSX4000 comes with a Manufacturer's Statement of Origin (MSO) from Shelby American, signed by Carroll Shelby, and each is also registered as a genuine Cobra by its CSX number. Cobra s/n CSX4204 is seriously for sale and priced to sell, including the spare fresh-rebuilt 427 side-oiler engine, at only $119,900.
