A Ram executive called competition among big trucks a daily "knife fight"--and his company's upgraded 2011 heavy-duty 3500 is spectacularly well armed.
The truck debuted at the Chicago auto show on Wednesday, punctuated by a laundry list of eye-popping stats, including 800 lb-ft of torque from the Cummins turbodiesel six-cylinder engine. Power remains at 350 hp, but the gross vehicle weight rating is now 30,000 pounds, and the maximum trailer weight is 22,700 pounds.
It also gets badges denoting the engine's high output, while retaining the Ram's familiar exterior appearance.
Additionally, Ram showed off a shorter Tradesman model, which gives buyers the chance to get the 390-hp Hemi V8 in a basic trim level. It costs $22,780.
